Martin Babinec shares observations on flaws in our taxpayer-funded Start-Up NY program, and better ways to create jobs in Upstate New York.
The truth is that Start-Up NY is a rigged program that allows politicians to substitute tough policy decisions with these catchy TV slogans – like NYS is tax free. And the way I look at this is politicians are missing the two main points that are central my theme. 1. Politicians don’t create jobs, entrepreneurs do, and 2. It’s not so much our focus on attracting companies to move in, but the need to invest in creating the right environment for our bright and capable people to start companies here instead of moving elsewhere. That plan starts by recognizing how we have to go about nurturing the assets we have, put a spotlight on crony capitalism and taxpayer funded giveaways, and lowering the cost of business for all companies.
